My team of builders and I have just finished another excellent job in local Westoodside, where we have been plastering, skimming, fitting new radiators, door frames, skirting boards and architraves. We worked on to bedrooms and the lounge and the owners are thrilled at the results. The next phase will be to fit a new kitchen, bathroom, and to convert the garage to a utility room and office. Check back to the blog to see the progress on this work when we continue in Westwoodside.
One of the joys of my work is the ability to work outside, and with the weather as nice as it has been in recent weeks it means I don't have to go abroad to get a tan. Recently I've redesigned a garden in Leeds and the results as you can see below are beautiful.
Despite setbacks waiting for clear weather, the job at Fenwick has been completed, and as you can see in the pictures below the results are looking fabulous. The owners are understandably ecstatic at the results, and two of the neighbours who are each looking for building work have been enquiring as to my availability. The final work encompassed over 3,000 engineering class b bricks, 47 tonnes of white stone, 140 bags of cement, and 36 tonnes of mixed sand and gravel. All of these ingredients were added together with some Colin Purdy building magic to deliver amazing results on time (despite the rain) and on budget. The vagaries of the English summer are currently disrupting the latest building work I'm doing in picturesque Fenwick near Ascen. The project is to construct retaining walls at a new build property, with the retaining walls needed to be raised so that they meet building regulations for damp proofing. The challenge for this project is that I am laying block paving brick sets with pattern concrete in between. To lay effectively requires dry weather conditions, which unfortunately in sunny South Yorkshire we have not recently had. As soon as we get some clear and dry weather I'll be concreting the path all around the property with up to 20 tonnes of concrete. Next would then be to finish the boundary wall with engineering bricks laid as headers. See below for pictures of how I'm getting on and keep checking back to see the completed work. With fine weather needed for an outdoor cementing job I am currently overseeing in Hatfield Woodhouse, the recent rain meant that I was able to return to Thorne Properties to complete the creation of new foundations in the kitchen. The property on King Street in Thorne is over 300 years old, and to ensure that it meets today's standards, me and my team have been digging down to the very foundations of the building and replacing them with new. Back breaking work? Yes! But if I take on a job there are no half measures and it is done properly, that's the Purdy way.
So with the team shovelling out nearly 25 tonnes of rubble and cement over the bank holiday weekend in Thorne, it was time to replace it with concrete, limestone, insulation and re-enforced steel. Look at the slideshow below to see what a difference a week makes.

Colin Purdy is pleased to announce the launch of his new logo. As shiny and professional as the flats he is renovating for Thorne Properties.

So what do you think? We look forward to hearing your feedback!
Some of this week has been spent making gates for the new Thorne Properties flats at King Street in Thorne. The brief was for steel frame gates with a wood insert and I'm really pleased with the finished product which can be seen below. The gates were made by Trevor Ward of Misson Gates and were to the usual high standards. All joinery work and fitting the gates with 2 foot deep foundations was by my own fair hands. Do get in touch if you are interested in gates, fences or other pieces of joinery.
I'm very excited by the launch of my new website. As a traditional builder with over 50 years building and joinery experience I thought it was high time that I developed a website which could showcase my work and make it easier for current and future customers to get in touch. On this site you will be able to keep see examples of my current projects as I work in and around the Doncaster area. I look forward to seeing you comments and feedback.
